Simon Sutarno

Abstract

The ability of resources utilization is a form of human adaptation to survive. Various forms of plant use have been recognized by the community, especially traditional communities, who depend on natural resource availability. This study aims to reveal the knowledge of the Arfak tribe community about the plant species, arwob (Dodonaea viscosa). The research was conducted at Arfak Mountains area and its surroundings (Kwau, Syou, Syoubri, Amber) which known as the villages of the Arfak tribe in Manokwari. The observations show that the Arfakese have a well knowledge about D.viscosa. This plant is used for several purposes such as: firewood, building construction materials, traditional technology, and as medicine. So far, there are no cultivation activities carried out for this species, the use of arwob is fully relying on natural availability.
